Reviewing the green card renewal process

On Behalf of | Dec 4, 2016 | U.s. Permanent Residency |

If your green card is about to expire, it is crucial to renew the card as soon as you can. In Miami, Florida, and throughout the U.S., failure to renew a green card may result in various consequences. For example, you may run into problems if you travel internationally or you could have difficulty securing a job. At Cuevas, Garcia & Torres, P.A., we understand that there are different reasons why people may fail to renew their green card, but it is vital to complete the renewal process prior to the expiration date.

If your green card is going to expire in the next six months or has already expired, you can renew the card by submitting Form I-90, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. You have the option to either send the form in through the mail or you can submit the form online. If you are currently in another country and your green card has expired, the USCIS recommends contacting their office, a U.S. port of entry or the U.S. Consulate before you try to send in Form I-90.

If your application is turned down, a letter of explanation will be sent to you. Furthermore, you can review your application’s status online. As a permanent resident, you may have a number of concerns or questions on immigration topics and it is essential to handle these issues appropriately.

On our immigrant visas page, you can take a look at more material related to green cards and other immigration matters.
