US immigration law: Many Africans concerned about recent change

Many Florida immigrants entered the United States with marriage-based, employment-based or other types of visas. U.S. immigration law governs the issue of such visas. Such laws are subject to change, as made evident by a recent policy, more specifically, a restriction set regarding those wishing to travel to the U.S. to live and work from certain regions in Africa.

A restaurant owner in another state says his family suffered a devastating setback because of the new policy. It seems that members of his family, including a brother and sister, have been waiting more than a decade to secure visas to join him in this country. They have reportedly followed all necessary application rules and were scheduled for a final interview when they received word that the meetings were postponed because of the new immigration policy.

The U.S. government has issued statements saying that the countries in question have failed to meet basic security standards, hence, the reason for the policy changes. In 2018, approximately 10,000 immigrants received visas in the countries now being restricted. There are currently nearly 400,000 Nigerian immigrants in the United States, many of whom have expressed great sorrow and concern regarding the recently implemented visa restrictions.

U.S. immigration law is complex and, as made evident by these recent restrictions in Africa, is often subject to change. If this particular issue or some other aspect of immigration is causing a legal problem for someone in Florida, he or she can reach out for support by requesting a meeting with an experienced immigration law attorney. This is often the first step toward finding a fair and satisfactory solution to a particular immigration-related problem.
